Newport CA to Ensenada Mexico Race

I entered the Newport to Ensenada race for 2017 along with three friends (Rod Kennan, Dan Schott and Tim Sullivan). The race is for sailboats with the course starting in Newport CA and ending in Ensenada Mexico, 125 NM further south. The complete round trip is around 250 NM.

The video to the right was taken outside Ensenada Mexico about 10 miles west of the port. In the shot you might be able to pick up the lighthouse on shore to the south of our track.  We were on a broad-reach in the best winds we had during the race at about the 31 hour point.

Oceanside Dolphins

Sailing north from San Diego to Oceanside California we ran across a large pod of dolphins about 5 NM south of Oceanside and 2 NM offshore.  The largest pod I have ever seen. The other crew estimated that there were over a hundred individuals.  See that included video from the bow taken with my Samsung Galaxy S6
